Program2024: Kingdom Witness
Details
When: November 7-10, 2024
Where: Jack and Deb Miller Memorial Chapel, Ashland University, Ashland, OH
Current High School Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are invited to join us as we explore our Kingdom Witness in the world.
Together we will explore:
- What is the Kingdom of God?
- What is our witness?
- How do these things affect the way we present ourselves to the world around us?
Students will be encouraged to identify and craft their testimony as part of their witness.
Throughout the weekend, students will also tour the campus of Ashland University, participate in worship services, attend a local Brethren Church service on Sunday morning, connect with university, seminary, and Brethren Church leaders.
Our Brethren Academy activities will take place on the campus of Ashland University and our lodging will be located down the road at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton. Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the University throughout the weekend.

Keynote Speaker
Rob Starnes
Rob Starnes is Lead Pastor at Gretna Brethren Church in “scenic” Bellefontaine, OH (ok, “scenic” is really pushing it). He and his wife Heather have worked with churches, leaders, and youth from Arkansas, to Minnesota, and beyond. They have been married for 26 years and have three kids. Rob fishes and dabbles in woodworking, but his passion is helping people find and chase Jesus. (He also thinks teens are way more fun than adults, but don’t tell anyone…)
Worship Leader
Patrick Sprague
Patrick Sprague has been involved in ministry for nearly 25 years. He has served roles within the church (Worship leader, youth leader, operations pastor, church planter) and led ministry in marketplace roles as well. Patrick is a member of Park Street Brethren Church and former staff member at The Brethren Church National Office. He’s passionate about connecting people more deeply to the story God’s been writing in them.
Most of the time you’ll find Patrick with his wife Leah and their three kids, but when he’s free, he’s likely picking up some new hobby, making music or reading.
Our Learning Arch
In the first year of Brethren Academy arch , we explore aspects of Identity within two key areas. First, we will discover and identify who we are in Christ. Next, we will discover who we are uniquely captured to be within our Brethren identity. Through these lenses, students will work to identify who they are uniquely positioned to be and answer for themselves, “Who am I?”
In the second year of Brethren Academy arch, we explore aspects of Calling within two key areas. First, we will learn to listen and identify God’s voice. Next, we will learn to trust God’s message. Through these means, students will work to recognize and act upon His call for their lives by answering the question, “What is my calling?”
In the third year of the Brethren Academy arch, we will explore aspects of Witness within two key areas. First, we will examine methods of crafting your personal story. Next, we will discover the people group we are a part of. With these in mind, students will work to answer the question, “What is my witness to my people?”
Mentors
Have you considered being a mentor for Brethren Academy? Mentors are a vital part of the Brethren Academy experience. We’d love for you to consider partnering with us as a mentor and walking alongside Brethren Academy students as they discover their calling in Christ.
Mentors are undergrad students and youth leaders who are faith-filled, outgoing, and fun individuals with a desire to walk alongside academy students during their time together and after students return home.
If you are interested in being considered for a mentor position, please apply by September 15, 2024.
